Event Title: Civic Spark


Purpose 

The purpose of the competition is to empower and inspire high school students to actively engage in their communities, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and a passion for positive change. Through innovative and impactful projects, the competition aims to foster collaboration and leadership, amplify student voices, celebrate diversity of ideas, and provide a real-world learning experience.


Theme 

The theme for the 2024 competition is Reshape Communities Together. Participants may consider projects such as:

  1. Voter Registration Drives:

  • Organizing events to register eligible voters in the community.

  • Conducting voter education workshops to increase awareness of the importance of voting.

  1. Community Outreach and Awareness Campaigns:

  • Raising awareness about specific social issues.

  • Distributing informational materials and organizing community forums.

  1. Youth Leadership Development Programs:

  • Workshops and training sessions to empower young people to become community leaders.

  • Youth-led initiatives addressing local concerns.

  1. Policy Advocacy and Lobbying:

  • Initiatives focused on advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or national level.

  • Lobbying efforts to engage elected officials on specific issues.

  1. Civic Education Programs:

  • Workshops on government structures and civic responsibilities.

  • Developing educational materials to promote civic literacy.

  1. Digital Platforms for Civic Engagement:

  • Creating online platforms for community discussions and collaboration.

  • Social media campaigns to mobilize support for civic causes.

  1. Community Dialogues and Town Hall Meetings:

  • Facilitating open discussions on pressing community issues.

  • Hosting town hall meetings to gather input and foster dialogue.

  1. Civic Journalism and Media Projects:

  • Creating community newsletters or blogs to share information and stories.

  • Producing documentaries or podcasts that highlight local issues.


Eligibility

1. Participants in grades 9-12 during the 2024-2025 school year will be selected for national 

showcase
